Over 200 million girls live with Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in 30 countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, with a high risk of urinal problems, infections, complications at childbirth, and risks of newborn deaths. Crime & Justice Lagos is talking about it.

Showmax’s Crime & Justice Lagos relays the message on the dangers of FGM with the second episode of the series. In this episode, Danladi and Kelechi were on a mission to save a kidnapped girl child, with their prime suspect being a transport worker – who the family had entrusted with their child.

Unknown to the family of the kidnapped young girl, her family members had connived to secretly mutilate the girl child despite her mother vehemently disagreeing with the proposition in earlier discussions.

Here are some lessons to learn from this episode.

Family Does Not Equate Safety

Parents need to take extra precautions when dropping their kids off at family members’ places or trusting them enough to leave them around their children. There are countless stories where family members have been perpetrators of harm to young children.

The child in the series would have been alive if they were not living with family members with a debased mindset. If the child did not die, they would have gotten away with the horror they put the child through.

Always Call The Doctor During Emergencies

Time and time again, people have been sensitised on administering treatments to others and themselves without proper medical diagnosis or advice, and it’s one problem that was clearly shown in this episode.

Had the girl been taken to the hospital earlier, her chances of survival might have increased, but they just mutilated her and left her to die.

Do Not Leave Your Child With Just Anyone

It’s a busy world we live in, and we cannot always monitor everything, but part of your responsibility as a parent includes protecting your child from impending danger. Considering the climate we live in, the habit of putting children on a bus without proper monitoring should not be encouraged.
