In episode one of the second season of The Real Housewives of Lagos, viewers were introduced to a new side of the fan-favourite cast of the reality TV show, Iyabo Ojo, which led to narratives of the ladies unnecessarily attacking the new cast members Faith Morey and Tania Omotayo.
In an interview with Netng, Mariam Timmer disclosed that the scene was all fun and games and nothing as serious as the episode portrayed.
“We’ve shot this season already, and it’s left for the fans to speculate on what the thoughts are. Iyabo stepping on her train in that scene was all fun and games. It wasn’t serious.
“If you meet a group of ladies in a new environment, we can’t all jump and be good friends. We have to get to know you and ask questions, which was not aired,” she said.
Chioma Ikokwu, another cast of RHOLagos, also buttressed her point as she pointed out that the show had to be edited into 50 minutes, and not all the happenings in a particular scene can make the final cut, which can sometimes lead to actions being taken out of context.
“What tends to happen is that certain bits will be slightly taken out of context or misinterpreted by the viewers because they don’t have the full picture, they’re not seeing the entire story. So when you see Iyabo Ojo stepping on a train, and it ends right there, you’ll be like, ‘How can she do that she’s so mean,’ but you won’t see the part where we all laughed about it and hugged a second later,” she disclosed.
Aside from the drama this season is already bringing, Mariam believes that viewers need to understand that the show is not that serious as everyone is just doing their job at entertaining both the cast and viewers.
“I want the viewers to know that no one is perfect. We are a group of ladies from different backgrounds, social classes, cultures, and upbringings. And as much as there is drama, some ladies click regardless of what is happening on camera. You’ll be shocked that the people that are close on camera are not close in real life.”
The Real Housewives of Lagos follows the life of seven opulent women as they take us through their journey while exposing us to their daily lives, relationships, family dynamics and businesses.
