The Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, has encouraged Nigerians to switch to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a “cleaner, safer, and more affordable” option compared to Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as fuel.
In a post on X.com on Thursday, Olusegun highlighted that traveling between Abuja and Lagos using CNG would cost ₦10,000.
He added that CNG is not only cost-effective but also safer, with a lower risk of tank explosions from heat compared to PMS.
The presidential aide also pointed out Nigeria’s abundance of natural gas and noted that CNG infrastructure is expanding rapidly, with more fueling stations opening across the nation.
Olusegun stated, “From Abuja-Lagos using CNG will cost you ₦10,000. A PMS tank has chances of exploding due to heat faster than a CNG tank ever will.
“Nigeria has more gas than crude oil. The business of CNG is moving faster than anticipated with stations coming up across every part of the country.”
Additionally, he mentioned that CNG financing options are becoming increasingly accessible, with companies like Futurewave Energy Solutions offering flexible payment plans for conversion services.
“CNG financing is getting better every day with outlets like #futurewavecng allowing you to convert and pay back over time.
“As a safer, cheaper and cleaner source of energy, the best time for you to join the CNG camp is now,” Olusegun added.
This advocacy comes amid a recent fuel price increase by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).
Naija News reports that the price of petrol at NNPC retail stations rose from ₦897 to ₦1,030 per litre in Abuja, and from ₦868 to ₦998 per litre in Lagos.
Other regions have experienced similar price surges, marking an increase of approximately 14.8%, or ₦133, within the past month.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu’s government has introduced a ‘convert now and pay later’ platform to facilitate the transition to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a practical substitute for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), better known as petrol or fuel.
Naija News understands that this new online portal will enable Nigerians to convert their petrol-fueled vehicles to CNG, with the option to defer payment for the conversion expenses.
