On X, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick announced that he wanted to rename the New York Strip after the Lone Star State, as reported by Fox’s local Texas affiliate, KTBC.

Patrick said he will be filing a resolution with the Texas Senate to rename the New York Strip to the Texas Strip.

“We ask restaurants to change the name of this strip of meat the next time they reprint their menus, and grocery stores to do the same,” Patrick tweeted.

“We want this to catch on across the country and around the globe.”

Patrick reasons that since New York mostly has dairy cows, the famous cut of meat shouldn’t be named after this state.

Instead, the cut should be named after Texas, which he said has over 12 million head of cattle.

Many social media followers are confused and frustrated at Patrick’s priorities.

“Geez…. Surely our state government has better things to focus on. What a waste of our tax dollars,” one person commented on Facebook. “Give that money back to constituents and direct your focus to less petty garbage.”

“Wow, don’t we have more pressing issues to be concerned about besides renaming a cut of steak!!!” another wrote.

“They come to office with the priorities of an eight-year-old child or someone from 2000 years ago,” a third said.

Others are calling for more meaningful change that would benefit Texans, like funding the state’s education system.

“This is ridiculous and what about funding Texas public schools if you want to do something for Texas and Texans,” one user commented.

“Do they not have bigger issues in Texas? like literacy rates???” another questioned.

Many are wondering whether officials are bringing up seemingly absurd and random issues — like a cut of steak — to distract Texans from more pressing matters.

Dan Patrick's Take on Strip Steak

Lieutenant Governor Patrick's tweet on renaming strip steak:

“𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈: Factoid: Texas has about 12.2 million head of cattle, the most in America. I met with the Texas Cattle Feeders and Cattle Raisers this week.

Out of curiosity, I asked each of them their favorite cut of meat. A few said New York Strip. I asked why we didn’t call it a “Texas Strip” because New York has mostly dairy cows. Just because a New York restaurant named Texas beef a New York Strip in the 19th century doesn’t mean we need to keep doing that.

The Texas Senate will file a concurrent resolution to officially change the name of the New York Strip to the “Texas Strip” in the Lone Star State. We ask restaurants to change the name of this strip of meat the next time they reprint their menus, and grocery stores to do the same. We want this to catch on across the country and around the globe.

In a world filled with serious issues that we address every day at the Texas Capitol, this simple resolution will help better market Texas beef. That’s good for the Texas cattle industry. The Cattle Associations sure liked the idea.

Liberal New York shouldn’t get the credit for our hard-working ranchers. We promote the Texas brand on everything made or grown in Texas because it benefits our economy and jobs.

After session ends this summer, I might take a short cruise across the Gulf of America and have a juicy medium-rare Texas Strip.

“You have to wonder what is he trying to divert our attention away from,” a Facebook user said.

The lieutenant governor said renaming the cut is more than just an empty action.

He believes that this will help Texas boost its economy and job market.

Patrick said he got the idea to rename the cut after speaking with the Texas Cattle Feeders and Cattle Raisers and asking them what part of steak they enjoy eating the most.

Lieutenant Governor Patrick’s office did not immediately reply to The U.S. Sun’s request for comment.
