A school teacher from Preston is aiming to raise funds to take her pupils on a trip to Spain.

She is hoping to take the year seven and eight students to Valencia in May 2026.

So far she has managed to raise over £1,000 which will go towards funding places for around 40 students. The money will go towards student’s spending money, meals and more.

One student said: “This trip is important to me because I can learn Spanish and make friends in Spain and speak to them in Spanish.”

Another added: “I’ve always wanted to go to Spain.”

Mrs Horrocks said: “Unfortunately, the majority of our students are disadvantaged, and their families aren’t able to afford to send their children on the trip.

“As languages are becoming more and more important, I really believe that every student should have the right and means to be able to access something like this, which will enable them to gain cultural capital, meet their pen pals, practice their Spanish skills, visit a foreign country as many of them never have and may never leave England and this in turn helps Preston and Lancashire to create more linguists and students with cultural awareness.”
