A primary school in Preston has yet another change in senior leadership with the installation of the latest temporary figure.
Eldon Primary School has been in a period of upheaval ever since the controversial publication of an Inadequate Ofsted inspection in September 2024.
It was rated ‘Good’ in most areas but was marked as ‘Inadequate’ for leadership and management, which ultimately informed the school’s overall rating.
This began the process of academisation, where the school begins to be operated by a trust rather than the local authority, and it is understood that Star Academies will assume responsibility for the school in future.
That process is not expected to be complete until November this year meaning the school is still being overseen by an Interim Executive Board with neither Lancashire County Council nor Star Academies having much direct involvement.
In September, Blog Preston reported that a number of members of staff were absent as the school year started – something which was causing concern for parents.
It coincided with the return of headteacher Azra Butt to the school after a period of leave, with Interim executive principal Dayle Harrison departing, though still expected to contribute to the school in an advisory capacity.
But now Blog Preston has learned that the headteacher is once again absent from the school and that more interim support has been drafted in during that absence.
Cheryl Brindle, the headteacher at Breck Primary School in Poulton-le-Fylde, is offering her support to the senior leadership team.
A letter from Catherine Wallace, chair of the school’s Interim Executive Board, said: “Currently, Mrs Butt is absent from school. Whilst she is away from school a Headteacher Mrs C Brindle, from The Breck Primary School, will offer support and capacity to the senior leadership team.
“We want to reassure you that the IEB remains fully active and committed to supporting the school community. As always, we are here for you and your children.”
Blog Preston has repeatedly asked Star Academies and Lancashire County Council for formal statements regarding the disruption at Eldon Primary School but has not received a response.
