Gauteng Roads and Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela has rejected the DA’s allegation that her department failed to act against officials implicated in a bus subsidy matter.
The DA has raised concerns over the issuing of bus subsidies under the Public Transport Operating Grant during the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 financial years.
Diale-Tlabela says allegations that the department is shielding officials are misleading and factually incorrect.
She says disciplinary action was taken against the department’s former head, while eight officials were charged following an investigation.
The department’s spokesperson, Lesiba Mpya says, “These outcomes demonstrated the department did not sit idle but acted decisively within the bounds of labour law and administrative justice. Furthermore, insinuations that the department is withholding information are equally incorrect.”
“The department continues to engage relevant institutions within the confines of legal and regulatory frameworks, including compliance with legislation, including the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). MEC Diale-Tlabela reiterates that this administration remains committed to transparency, accountability, and consequence management.”
