The family of a missing Marumo Gallants midfielder Thapelo Dhludhlu is concerned for his safety after receiving threats from his kidnappers.
Dhludhlu, who hails from Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, was last seen last weekend in his hometown, after Gallants gave players a brief break from training.
The player’s mother, Doris Dhludhlu, says the alleged kidnappers have contacted them using his phone.
She says they are demanding a cash ransom of R50 000 for his safe release.
“They are saying he’s been kept at a place where they are selling drugs. We don’t know where he owes the guys who captured him or what. They are busy sending us texts demanding the R50 000 for his safe release or they will kill him. They sent us a picture of him lying down without any clothing. They even texted my sisters demanding R10 000. I pleaded with them that the person who can assist is the very same person they’ve captured. They should release him so that he’s able to pay what they demanding.”
