Caerphilly County Borough Council has launched its annual Operation Santa appeal, which will stay open until Friday 27 November.

The appeal aims to provide presents for children nominated by their social workers. The council said hundreds of children across the borough are at risk of not receiving a gift this Christmas.

Residents are being asked to pledge cash through the council’s fundraising page so that local children receive gifts in time for Christmas. Pledges can also be made by calling 01443 815588 or by emailing operationsanta@caerphilly.gov.uk.

People buying a gift voucher are asked not to wrap it, but to put it in an envelope clearly marked ‘Operation Santa’ with the value of the voucher or gift card. Each individual voucher or gift card should be limited to £10.

Unwrapped gift cards need to be taken to a collection centre by 29 November. The collection centres are Bargoed Library (CF81 8QR), Blackwood Library (NP12 1AJ), Caerphilly Library (CF83 1JL), Newbridge Library (NP11 4FH), Rhymney Library (NP22 5NU), Risca Library (NP11 6BW) and Ystrad Mynach Library (CF82 7BB).

Cllr Teresa Heron, Cabinet Member for Social Care, said: “Operation Santa brings joy and festive cheer to children and families across the county borough, helping to make Christmas a special time of year. This fantastic appeal relies on the kindness and generosity of our local residents and businesses, whose continued support makes such a positive difference.”
