Plans to transform a popular New Forest outdoor learning centre have taken a huge step forward.
National youth work charity UK Youth, which operates Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre, near Bransgore, Hampshire, has been granted conditional planning permission to build a new indoor facility on the site, which UK Youth opened has operated since 1946.
The proposal, approved by the New Forest National Park Authority, will see an “existing, under-used and poor quality” storage building demolished and replaced with an Experiential Learning & Sports Centre, promoting all-year-round use of the site.

A planning statement accompanying the application said: “Avon Tyrrell receives 39,000 visitors annually. As there is no existing purpose-built indoor facility at the site, the site is more intensively used during warmer months.
“The new development is needed to allow existing visitor numbers to be ‘smoothed across the year’. This would allow the outdoor centre to operate more sustainably and, in particular, better protect the natural and historic environment of the site.”
Avon Tyrrell is dedicated to providing young people the opportunity to experience, learn and develop through outdoor learning in a natural environment to improve their life skills. It supports equitable access for all young people and is proud to be a leader in the use of outdoor learning to transform the lives of young people and communities.

Operating on the principles of Experience, Learn and Develop, it offers residential and day experiences for educational and youth organisations and families – with accommodation in a Grade I-listed Manor House, lodges or camping – featuring activities such as archery, bushcraft, canoeing, climbing, abseiling, high ropes, orienteering and mountain biking.
David Watts, UK Youth director of outdoor learning, said: “Young people sit at the heart of our work at Avon Tyrrell. Our Experience, Learn and Develop model ensures we support young people’s development of socio-emotional skills when they visit, utilising outdoor learning and youth work principles.
“We believe experiential outdoor learning gives young people the chance to develop life skills, including improved communication, motivation, teamwork and resilience, and building character.
“This development is a key part of the mitigation needed to allow the charity to continue its work to conserve and, where possible, enhance the Manor House and registered park through better management of their use throughout the year.
“The ELSC will allow visitor numbers to be ‘smoothed’ over the year, to avoid peak use in the summer and to remove wet weather and evening activities from the Manor House altogether and avoid the impact to the parkland during extreme wet weather conditions.”

Planned features of the new single-storey sports centre include a full-size sports court, separate climbing facility and training room, alongside a break-out and refreshment area and changing rooms.
UK Youth has now launched an appeal to fund the development and proposed restoration of the Manor House at the heart of its site.

It's designed to provide extra financial support to people who are working but earning a lower income.</p><p>The program includes two components: a base amount for eligible workers and an additional supplement for those who qualify for the disability tax credit.</p><p>Payment amounts vary from the federal standard in a few provinces, and Quebec has the highest payouts in the country.</p><h3>What is the Advanced Canada Workers Benefit?</h3><br/><p>The Advanced Canada Workers Benefit (ACWB) lets eligible workers in Quebec receive part of their CWB early, rather than waiting to receive it all at tax time.</p><p>Instead of getting the full credit when you file your return, the CRA sends out up to 50% of your total annual benefit in advance. These payments are split into three instalments throughout the year. If you also qualify for the disability supplement, half of that amount is included in the early payments too.</p><p>There's no separate application needed to get advance payments. As long as you're eligible for the CWB and living in Canada on the first day of a payment quarter, the CRA will issue the ACWB automatically using your latest tax return.</p><h3>Who is eligible for the Canada Workers Benefit?</h3><br/><p>To get the Canada Workers Benefit, you need to meet a few basic requirements. You must be a resident of Canada all year and be at least 19 years old (unless you live with a spouse, common-law partner or child, in which case you can be younger). </p><p>You also need to have earned income from work and have a 2024 family net income under the limit for your household type. In Quebec, those income thresholds for the base CWB are:</p><ul><li><strong>$23,915.83</strong> for single parents</li><li><strong>$32,356.72</strong> for single individuals with no children</li><li><strong>$39,969.72</strong> for couples with children</li><li><strong>$50,150.04</strong> for couples with no children</li></ul><p>You're not eligible if you were a full-time student for more than 13 weeks in 2024 (unless you had a dependant), spent 90 days or more in prison or don't pay Canadian taxes due to diplomatic or similar status.</p><p>Plus, to receive the disability supplement, you need to qualify for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) and have an approved Form T2201 on file with the CRA. Income thresholds for the supplement are higher — for example, a single Quebecer with a disability can qualify with an income up to $36,495.32. Different limits apply based on family type and whether one or both adults qualify.</p><p><a href="https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/child-family-benefits/acwb-eligibility.html" target="_blank">More about CWB eligibility</a></p><h3>How to apply for the Canada Workers Benefit</h3><br/><p>You don't need to submit a specific application for the Canada Workers Benefit — as a refundable tax credit, you can just claim it when you file your federal income taxes.</p><p>If you file online, most tax software will walk you through the steps automatically. If you're filing by paper, you'll need to complete <a href="https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/forms-publications/tax-packages-years/general-income-tax-benefit-package/5000-s6.html" target="_blank">Schedule 6</a> and include it with your return.</p><p>For the disability supplement, how you claim it depends on who qualifies in your household. If only one person in a couple is eligible for the DTC, that person should claim both the basic CWB and the supplement. If both partners qualify, only one can claim the basic amount, but each person should complete a separate Schedule 6 to get the disability portion.</p><p>Advance payments through the ACWB are automatic. As long as your return — including line 45300 — is filed before November 1 of the benefit period and you qualify for the CWB, the CRA will handle the rest.</p><p><a href="https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/child-family-benefits/acwb-apply.html" target="_blank">More about applying for the CWB</a></p><h3>How much is the Canada Workers Benefit in Quebec?</h3><br/><p>In Quebec, the Canada Workers Benefit can add up to a much bigger payout than in other parts of the country — but the tradeoff is that the income thresholds are lower.</p><p>The province uses its own formula to calculate the benefit, and the result is that eligible workers here can receive significantly higher amounts. How much you get depends on your income, your family situation and whether you or your partner qualify for the disability supplement.</p><p>For the 2024 tax year, here are the maximum yearly amounts for Quebec residents:</p><ul><li><strong>$1,986.80</strong> for single parents (<strong>$331.13</strong> per advance payment)</li><li> <strong>$3,705.38</strong> for single individuals (<strong>$617.56</strong> per advance payment)</li><li><strong>$3,702.59</strong> for couples with children (<strong>$617.10</strong> per advance payment)</li><li> <strong>$5,778.52</strong> for couples with no children (<strong>$963.09</strong> per advance payment)</li><li> <strong>$827.72</strong><strong> extra</strong> for each adult who qualifies for the disability supplement (<strong>$137.95</strong> more per advance payment)</li></ul><p>That means the maximum a household could receive — assuming a couple without dependants, both of whom are DTC-eligible — is <strong>$1,238.99</strong> in the July advance payment alone.</p><p>The amount you get will vary depending on your income. Once your earnings pass a certain point, the benefit begins to shrink — so you could receive less than the maximum even if you still qualify.</p><p><a href="https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/forms-publications/tax-packages-years/general-income-tax-benefit-package/quebec/5005-s6.html" target="_blank">More about CWB amounts in Quebec</a></p><h3>Is the Canada Workers Benefit taxable?</h3><br/><p>No, the Canada Workers Benefit isn't taxable. It's actually a refundable tax <em>credit</em>, which means it's meant to reduce what you owe — or give you a refund if you don't owe anything at all. Even the advance payments you get during the year aren't counted as income, so you won't be taxed on that money.</p><h3>When are the Canada Workers Benefit payment dates?</h3><br/><p>The next Advanced Canada Workers Benefit payment is scheduled for <strong>Friday, July 11</strong> — marking the first instalment for the 2025-26 benefit period.</p><p>These advance payments are spaced out quarterly through the year, giving eligible Quebecers a boost every few months. Two more payments are set to follow:</p> <ul> <li> October 10, 2025</li> <li> January 12, 2026</li> </ul> <p><a href="https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/calendar.html" target="_blank">More about federal benefit payment dates</a></p>
